Crowdlending, or peer-to-peer (P2P) lending, means lending money to individuals or businesses through an online platform. You buy loan parts, receive interest, and the platform handles borrower selection, payments and sometimes a buyback guarantee.
In practice, you are not opening a bank account: you take exposure to a large number of small loans. Your return depends on three things: the quality of the borrowers, the strength of the platform and the price at which you accept the risk. That is why I never look at an advertised rate without looking at the guarantees and fees.
In 2026, the European market has professionalised: ECSP/PSFP licences, audited reports, consolidation among providers. Rates have stabilised around 9% to 13% for diversified portfolios, with more aggressive niches at 14–16%. The strongest platforms survived; the others left the market or scaled back.
